This news is both exciting for me as a technology enthusiast, and frustrating for me as someone who is in the market for a new phone. Just a few weeks ago the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, featuring Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and a 4.65″ 720p display, was unveiled, and was considered by many people, including myself, to be the phone to beat.
Well, the Galaxy Nexus hasn’t even hit stores yet and already there are reports of the HTC Edge, featuring a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, which is more powerful yet more battery-friendly than what is currently available, as well as a 4.7″ 720p HD S-LCD 2 with optical lamination that BGR says “could possibly be one of the best displays in the world.” According to reports, the HTC Edge will also feature Beats audio technology. The device is expected to be released in March or April, but there is no word on carrier availability or whether it will be 4G LTE.
I am all for tech innovations, but it sort of takes away the excitement of buying the Galaxy Nexus on release day – and thinking “I have the most advanced phone on the market” – knowing that the HTC Edge lurks around the corner.
